Below we’ve provided an overview of the most commonly discussed non-surgical technologies so you’ll have the right information as you make important decisions about your body.
As with any medical or surgical procedure, we recommend you seek an expert opinion. The experienced surgeons at Imagen provide complimentary evaluations and recommendations about which procedures best fit your body and aesthetic goals.
While minimally invasive techniques (e.g., SmartLipo and VASER) provide immediate results with minimal risk and downtime, non-invasive treatments offer virtually no risk and little to no downtime.
CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved fat-freezing technology that permanently destroys fat cells. Just 2 to 3 months after a single treatment, patients will notice a 20-25 percent reduction in the areas treated.
The treatment itself takes one hour per application and requires no anesthesia, no needles and no incisions.
Patients may initially experience a slight discomfort at the site of treatment lasting 5 to 10 minutes, after which there is little to no pain.
Because there is no need for medication or anesthesia, patients can drive home at the conclusion of the treatment.
As for results, CoolSculpting is the top performer among non-surgical technologies, boasting the highest “worth it” rating on the well-known patient forum RealSelf.com.
Drs. Frank and Jennifer Soto considered many of the non-surgical options and chose to offer CoolSculpting “because it works consistently. And our patients from all over Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs, Fremont and Bellevue absolutely love the results.”
Ultrasonic Cavitation
Ultrasonic Cavitation procedures such as Liposonix and Vasershape use focused ultrasonic waves to destroy fat below the skin (subcutaneous fat). The treatments last approximately 30 minutes to an hour. Results typically appear 8-12 weeks after the procedure. Some patients have experienced cold, tingling, prickling or burning sensations during the procedure, followed by bruising, redness and swelling after. To help alleviate the pain, patients are often given pain medication and oral sedation.
Low Level Laser Therapy
The manufacturers of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) procedures such as iLipo and Zerona claim immediate, though short-term, results for slimming the arms, abdomen and waist. The theory behind these procedures is that they break down triglycerides in the fat cells, but they do not eliminate the fat cells themselves.
Radiofrequency Energy
Treatments using radiofrequency energy, such as Thermage, claim to remodel the collagen in your skin, thus providing thicker skin in the treatment area. Keep in mind that this procedure is superficial; it is intended to treat the skin, but it does not treat deeper fat. Be sure to inquire about the discomfort some patients have experienced as a result of this treatment.
